US Airways Kiosks Break Down After America West Link
|
|
Bloomberg US Airways Group Inc.'s automated kiosks are resuming operation after freezing at its main hub in Charlotte, North Carolina, and other cities when the carrier merged its reservation system with America West Holdings Corp.
US Airways' kiosks at Charlotte and four regional hubs couldn't communicate with the reservation network for several hours after the systems were unified as part of a 2005 merger of the two airlines, causing lines and missed flights.

Abstract
In the nine years that we have been involved in software
performance engineering (SPE) and performance testing
engagements we have learned several things. Across numerous
eCommerce applications and an enterprise CRM product suite, our
knowledge base about the field of Software Performance
Engineering is constantly evolving. The focus of this paper is what
we have learned in the areas of SPE project management,
performance testing, defining the scope of SPE projects, ITIL,
post production performance support, and exploration of the
boundaries of applied SPE. Is it really just about performance?

Dr. Connie Smith started the field of Software Performance Engineering over 25 years ago and is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in SPE. Dr. Smith and her partner Dr. Lloyd Williams have published 100s of performance articles and papers, several performance books including their most recent "Performance Solutions: A Practical Guide to Creating Responsive, Scalable Software."
Dr. Smith started the SPE work in 1978 at the University of Texas; developed prediction techniques by studying large systems under development. She first proposed the term software performance engineering in an award-winning 1981 paper. Dr. Smith is a past ACM National Lecturer, served 8 years as an officer of ACM SIGMETRICS, and is an active member of the Computer Measurement Group, having served on the CMG Board of Directors for 4 years.
Dr. Williams is an internationally recognized authority on software methods, tools, and environments. He specializes in the design and analysis of software architectures to insure that they meet quality requirements, such as modifiability, performance and reliability. His work emphasizes methods, tools, and support environments for the description and analysis of software architectures and designs. Dr. Williams was previously an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Colorado, Denver and has also served as Director of the Rocky Mountain Institute of Software Engineering, a non-profit organization founded to promote research and education in software engineering.
